📸 STL Throwback

Each week, we’ll dust off the archives to share a vintage photo and the quirky, fascinating, or downright bizarre story behind it. Because nothing says St. Louis quite like digging through the past (and sometimes finding gold).

Think of it as a weekly reminder that our city has always had character, long before Instagram filters.

At some point in St. Louis history, shoppers at **Stix, Baer & Fuller** weren’t just browsing for toys—they were coming face-to-face with a **47-foot-long "prehistoric monster" that laughed, breathed, and "almost lived."**

Displayed in the toy department on the 5th floor, this massive mechanical dinosaur was built in collaboration with the New York Museum of Natural History at a cost of $35,000!

While the exact year of this exhibit remains unclear, it’s a perfect example of how St. Louis has never been afraid to go big (and a little weird) with its attractions.
