? Local Highlight
Fair warning – this is going to be an all-out, unapologetic lovefest but it’s all genuine so ✌️.
This isn’t so much of a hidden gem, more of a St. Louis staple, but Civil Life had to be our first ‘Local Highlight.’ They aren’t just our favorite brewery, but our favorite business in all of STL.
They are the opposite of pretentious (whatever that actually is). They make great beer at great prices, have a perfect space to foster community (with plans to improve it further), and the owner Jake is possibly the nicest guy ever!
Civil Life doesn’t seem to chase trends in the beer world. They brew a range of beers within their specific niche of ‘malt-driven sessionable beers’, and boy, do they do it well.
Things We Love:
– Classically delicious beer
– Their prices are unbelievably competitive
– $9 per six-pack!- Tiny kitchen, massive flavor
– the food (prior to Covid) was as good as the beer. Soup Sundays for the win!- Most of all, every interaction we’ve ever had with Jake or any member of staff has been a pleasure.
Helpful, interested, and down-to-earth bar staff can sometimes be hard to find, but make any brewery experience infinitely better.
Civil Life is currently only doing curbside pick-up. They regularly update their online beer offerings and even stock some wine and cider too. We can’t wait until we can get back inside the brewery because their space is another huge selling point!

Sidekick Suggestion: Get the Oatmeal Brown and keep an eye out for their 24 can mix-pack’s that can’t be beaten on value!

? Beer of the Week
Brewery: Modern Brewery
Beer: Three Stacks of High Society #1
Modern Brewery seems to have leveled up in the past year or so. While they always had a solid core of beers, their recent offerings have been nothing short of phenomenal. Their Mansions and Benzes imperial IPA was possibly my favorite beer of 2020.
This triple dry-hopped New England style oat cream IPA features Citra, Motueka, & Sabro hops along with flaked & golden oats and milk sugar.
I’m not one for the sommelier type descriptions (nose, bouquet, mouthfeel. etc), but if you like thick, hazy IPA’s that are as smooth as a Mark Knopfler guitar solo, then you’ll definitely want this in your life.

Zillow Find of the Week
Dexter Fowler’s Old Home
12951 Thornhill Dr, Saint Louis, MO 63131
Now that Dexter Fowler has moved to L.A., we can get a sneak peek into his life in STL. His massive 8,683 square foot Town & Country home has just hit the market.
Hopefully, this house kept all the good vibes of the adorable Fowler family. Other highlights include one of the largest kitchens I’ve ever seen and a gorgeous staircase.
